RKA Mentoring Program - Architectural Masonry

As part of our office Mentoring Program, RKA staff recently visited an architectural masonry plant in Sunbury, Ohio.  The tour covered the replacement of Portland cement for Slag cement, and other sustainable methods being utilized in the industry to strengthen masonry and reduce waste.  RKA received a national award from the American Institute of Architects for our Mentoring Program in 2006. On behalf of the firm, Darryl and Peter accepted the 2006 AIA Continuing Education Award for Excellence at the national AIA convention in Los Angeles, California.

FPC of Three Rivers/Centreville - Final Conceptual Design

First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2013 by planning for the next 175 years and has commissioned Rogers Krajnak Architects to prepare a Conceptual Design for renovations and additions.  The project includes a new main entrance with a covered drop off, new elevator, expanded narthex, administration suite, new chapel/meeting room, new sanctuary vestibule, accessible restrooms and the renovation of classrooms, choir room, meeting spaces and the historic sanctuary.  The existing electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems will be upgraded.  The existing parking lot west of the building will be expanded to accommodate the new covered drop off, garage and landscaped island. The existing parking lot in front of the building will be removed and the site will be renovated into a new prayer garden.

RKA designs contemporary porch addition

Rogers Krajnak Architects was asked to design a contemporary porch addition to highlight the entry to this existing ranch-style home. The sleek porch design emphasizes details with board-formed concrete piers, a mahogany wood bench, and a brick planter to tie into the existing house materials. The new pitched roof structure and angled steps emphasizes the existing recessed entry and provides a more welcoming approach to this wooded Dublin home.

Master Plan for intriguing home in Worthington

Rogers Krajnak Architects has been commissioned to provide Master Planning services for a special residential project in Worthington. The home, built in 1967, is an interesting stylistic blur of shingle style and modernism.  Our Clients were captivated at first sight by the home’s unique architecture and dramatic hillside, natural setting. The home has an amazing connection to its beautiful wooded site through the use of large expanses of glass, an open plan, and a variety of exterior spaces around the perimeter of the home.  RKA was selected for the project due to the Clients desire that future changes blend with the original architecture and their confidence in RKA’s experience with similar projects. The RKA process will include;  a detailed analysis of the existing conditions and original design, defining maintenance and repair issues, discussing the Client’s goals for changes to the home and their lifestyle, and the creation of a Master Plan which allows a phased project implementation over time.

Columbus Spraygrounds Completed

Rogers Krajnak Architects provided architectural services for two new Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Sprayground projects at Blackburn Park and at Indian Mound Park. Located adjacent to existing recreation facilities, each project includes a new Sprayground park, restroom buildings and Sprayground equipment buildings. The restroom and equipment facilities at Blackburn Park are located in a renovated building while the restroom and equipment facilities at Indian Mound Park are accommodated in a new building.
